What I'm Listening To

I first heard her single, L.E.S Artistes, on Ethel XM (possibly the greatest radio station ever, God Bless you Eric) and absolutely dug the beat and lyrics. I happened to catch her live performance of Shove It on MTV and rewound the 1-minute clip at least 8 times so I could practice the dance moves they were performing. I normally don't buy cds anymore but falling into a Best Buy gift certificate it was the first cd I reached for. It is classified as indie rock, electronic, dub, psychedlic rock...but it adds components of reggae as well. With producer, Switch, contributing to 75% of the tracks don't be surprised if you find yourself dancing in your seat or in front of your mirror. Santi White (a.ka. Santogold) looks to break down barriers of "a black woman who wasn't singing R&B or hip hop." The album was given four out of five stars by Rolling Stone. She is raw and real...
